I teach many pronunciation techniques in my accent reduction classes. My students understand these techniques and are able to use them in our sessions.

The difficult part for most students is practicing and monitoring their speech on their own.

One great way to monitor your progress is to record yourself. I know that you probably won’t like the sound of their voice at first (I didn’t) but you really need to hear how you sound if you want to improve the way you speak.

If you have a PC you can use the built-in Windows Sound Recorder to record yourself. Just go to: Start –> All Programs –> Accessories –> Sound Recorder.

Since I have a Mac I use the free audacity software to record myself. It works on both Mac and PC’s. Click here to learn about this free pronunciation recording software.

The pronunciation component of Rosetta Stone software has a recording tool that lets you listen to American English and record your voice.  The software is expensive but it has some nice features.
