After working with many people on American accent techniques over the the past 6 years…I want to emphasize something that anyone who wants to improve the way they communicate MUST understand.
When you speak American English you need to:
- Stress important words
- Raise your pitch slightly when you say important words
- Pause slightly after you say important words
Why is this so critical?
It’s critical because American English speakers listen for stress, pitch & pauses.
When you say a word using stress & a slightly higher pitch… and if you insert a little pause after that word…..American listeners know that word is important.
If you stress every word the same way, the American listener can’t perceive what words are the important in your message.
Your speech will sound too flat or monotonous. American listens will probably become bored or disinterested (you’ve seen this in their faces, right?).
I teach you how to speak American English using stress, pitch & pauses in my iPad book, American Accent Fundamentals.
This is an excellent introduction to the fundamentals of the American accent!
You’ll learn to speak American English with a melody that native speakers understand.
This book is available in the iBookstore in Japan, South American, Europe & North America.
If you are a iPad learner…this is a super convenient way for you to learn and practice your American accent!
