Here is a SIMPLE technique that you can use to speak American English more clearly.

1. Always remember to stress last names more than first names.

For example:

Bill Clinton –> CLINton is stressed

Barak Obama–> oBAma is stressed

Jennifer Lopez–>LOpez is stressed

2. The same rule applies to place names.

Here are are few examples:

New York–>York is stressed

North Carolina–> caroLIna is stressed

3. Finally, stress the state more than the city.

chiGAgo, IlliNOIs

los ANgeles, caliFORnia
