How to Connect with People in American English~Speak with a Good Pace

How to connect with people in American English~Step 4~Speak with a good pace

To connect with people, speak with a good pace.

To connect with people, speak with a good pace.

You want to speak in a way that will make people want to connect with you.

But people won’t understand you if you speak too fast.

And if people don’t understand you, they won’t be about to connect with you.

If people don’t understand what you’re saying, you won’t be able to build connections.

You won’t be able to get your ideas across.

Help your listeners by speaking with an easy pace

When you speak with a good pace, you help your listeners understand you.

You enable people such as your customers and colleagues to hear and process what you say.

When you speak with a moderate pace, you sound more confident.

Americans want to understand you. Speak with a pace that enables them to do that.

Here’s how~

Pacing exercise

  1. Break longer sentences into shorter phrases to improve your speaking pace.
  2. Emphasize the most important word in each phrase so that your listener can hear it clearly.
  3. Pause briefly after each phrase.

Sentences for practice

  1. We’ll meet with David Johnson, at 4:30, on Wednesday.
  2. I spoke with Susan Miller, about the conference, in August.
  3. I’ll give you a call, when I return to the office, on Friday.
