How to pronounce thoroughly
People frequently ask me how to pronounce the words
Here’s how I respell and explain the American English pronunciation of these words.
The first syllable in each word has primary stress.
Use an /ɝ/ as in Purple sound to pronounce the vowel.
The second syllable has secondary stress.
Use an /ow/ as in Rose sound to pronounce the vowel.
Thoroughly has a third syllable. This syllable also has secondary stress.
Use an /iy/ as in Green sound to pronounce the vowel.
Don’t rush. Say each syllable slowly a few times. Then you can speed it up.
