The Center for Applied Linguistics here in Washington, DC just came out with a guide or brief titled: Teaching Pronunciation to Adult Language Learners. This brief outlines some of the theories about why people have accents and explains the shift toward teaching prosodic features of English instead of focusing on individual sounds.

For teachers who are just getting started teaching pronunciation I highly recommend Erlich & Avery’s . This book is easy to read and contains lots of ideas you can use to teach pronunciation concepts to your students.
