Meet us
Susan Ryan, MA (ESL) - Chief Instructor
Susan has been fascinated with American
English pronunciation, accent training and online learning
since 1993. While teaching at an elementary school in
California, she discovered that she could not communicate
with the immigrant parents of her students because of
their foreign accents and speaking skills. This prompted
her to start working with adult non-native English
speakers, and to begin learning to effectively teach
American English pronunciation. Since then, she has successfully taught hundreds
of foreign adult professionals and non-native English
speakers from all over the world. Her
passions are working with motivated learners, and
combining education and technology to bring online
American English courses to students all over the
globe.
Susan holds a Masters degree in Adult ESL
(English as a Second Language) from Hamline University
in Minnesota, a teaching degree from San Francisco State
University, and a Bachelors of Arts from the University of
Minnesota. She is an American English
pronunciation specialist at Carlos Rosario
International Charter School (Washington DC), Montgomery
College (Silver Spring, Maryland), and the Program for
International Educators at Prince Georges County Public
Schools. Susan is also an active member and presenter at TESOL
(Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages) and sits
on the Executive Board of WATESOL, its Washington DC
chapter.
